Photos of overweight mom spark backlash

In our Husr 224 textbook, Nathaniel Branden states that we build our self-respect when we defend our worth against unnecessary criticism.

I thought that the attached article featured a quote from the person who is the subject of the article, that demonstrated good defense of her worth.
  • What was the woman criticized for?
  • How did she defend her worth?
  • What elements of her statement do you think make good examples of a person with self-respect?
  • What did the woman suggest might be the reason that people were being cruel?
Here's the article...

This women was criticized for her body figure. She is a 22 years old women with two children, andapparently for some people she should hide the way she is until she's skiny. she defended her worth by telling people that eventhough they do not tell who they are (anonimous talkers) they should be sensitive about what they say to people. She tells her story about having lost weight after her first child but once all was lost she got pregnant again. An older women that wrote to her said that they should write about mothers who have lost weight and do have better bodies not people that have bad looking bodies. i think this lady was hard headed and she thinks that everyone is fit and should be one way. She is blinded to the reality that people gain and lose weight and not everyone will look slim. I think the mother of two has lots of self respect and high self-esteem. she knew how to respond to the bad comments that people had to say to her. She defended herself like a person with dignaty. She is proud to be herself and does not let others bring her down.
